Sports Fix Tonight.

The show starts in about 45 minutes, and I assure you that you won't be dissapointed.

Guest one will be the play-by-play voice of the Flin Flon Bombers, Rob Hart. Hart and I will delve into the Flin Flon Bomber's situation moving forward, and what we can expect from Mike Regan's team during the offseason. With the likes of Deven Stillar, Andrew Johnston amd Matt Lecours eligable to return, Flin Flon could be a threat again this year.

Guest two will be the SJHL President Laury Ryan. Together we'll discuss the current state of affairs in the SJHL. We'll talk about the upcoming showcase in Weyburn, the 2012 R.B.C. in Humboldt, and the status of the new facilities in Melville and Estevan and when those buildings will be open for our use.

My final guest will be Saskatchewan Roughrider's receiver Rob Bagg. Bagg is coming off a terrific third season with the Riders and together we'll tee up Thursday's matchup with the Montreal Allouettes.

You can check out the show on 1050 CJNB/102.3FM CJNS or listen online here.

Hope you're enjoying your evening, wherever you're reading from.

It was a great Golf Scramble on Saturday. It was really cool seeing a bunch of current/former players. A big thank you to all North Star Golf Tournament sponsors and participants.

2010 Annual General Meeting News + Golf Tournament Info

It was an expensive year for the Battlefords North Stars.

The bottom line is that the cost of icing a Junior A hockey team is an expensive endeavor, and had it not been for a two-round playoff run, the Stars financial fortunes could have been a lot different.

This season the Stars technically lost just over $15,000, but thankfully the team had equity from previous years and is technically 'in the black' financially.

In addition to the release of the team's finances, the Board of Directors recapped some of the highlights of the season and then an election was held to fill seven vacant Board of Director positions.

Ray Adelman was elected Board President for a second consecutive season, and Darren Huxley will once again serve as first Vice-President. All other Board of Director's decision will be announced on the Team's website within the next few days.

Right now the Star's need your help. This coming weekend is the Annual Golf Scramble and there are still spots available. You don't need to have a full-team in order to sign up. You can pay $75 for an individual spot in the tournament and you will be paired with three fellow Star's supporters and a player.

All proceeds from this event go towards to organization. The Golf Tournament is my favourite fundraiser of the year, and it's always a great opportunity for fans to interact with former and current players and the coaching staff. There are great prizes available, and the meal is always a sight to behold.

If you want to golf next Saturday, call 445-7827. I promise you that you won't regret it.

Season Tickets are also available through the North Star's office.

Stars Add Three.

The Battlefords North Stars Hockey Club is pleased to announce three commitments. Tim Rollins, a forward from the Eastman Selects, Calder Neufeld of the Tisdale Trojans and Colin Phaneuf, a 20 year old forward who sat last year out, but played in the BCHL in the 2008-09 season with the Alberni Valley Bulldogs, have all committed to play for the North Stars for the 2010-11 hockey season.

Rollins played last season for the Eastman Selects hockey team in the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey league. In 32 games he scored 22 goals and 21 assists for 43 points. Rollins is a skilled winger who has a very good work ethic. He also led his team in the playoffs with 11 points in 9 games for the Selects who were League finalists.

Neufeld played last season for the Tisdale. He also played some games for the Noth Stars as an affiliated player. Calder is a hard shooting winger who is able to contribute offensively. Last season he scored 30 goals and 15 assists for 45 points in 44 games played.

Phaneuf sat out last year as he was recovering from an injury. But during the 2008-09 season with the Bulldogs, Phaneuf recorded 4 goals and 5 assists in 13 games after being acquired from the Winnipeg South Blues. He will add scoring to the North Stars this season.

The North Stars are very excited to be able to add players of this ability and would like to welcome them to the team. For more information please contact the North Stars office.

It would be naive of anybody to think that there won't be further changes to club moving forward, but early in the offseason, Ken Pearson has done a tremendous job of instilling some depth up front. With the likes of Mitch Wall, Chad Filteau, Blake Peake and Troy Watt departing due to age, and Ward Szucki due to a trade - It's important that forwards are put in place that can make an impact at the SJHL level.

This list is incomplete, but here is a look at some of the eligable forwards who could be suiting up for the Stars next season:

1990 - Josh Daley, Shay Neufeld, Tony Oak, Colin Phaneuf
1991 - Blake Tatchell, Boyd Wakelin, Brett Miller, Nathan Tomac
1992 - Tanner Schwab, Dane Muench, Kyle Hall, Calder Neufeld, Tim Rollins

The best part about this setup is the fact that there's an even amount of kids for each primary age group. Since his arrival, Pearson has made it no secret that he wants to set up the club for tons of future success while still fielding a championship-calibre team. Time well tell of course, but at least on paper, it's hard to argue with the group of forwards that the Stars have in place at the moment.

What do you think?

Former North Star Hoists Stanley Cup.

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League is pleased to see another former player win the Stanley Cup.
When the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Philadelphia Flyers last night, it assured Hawk defenseman Jordan Hendry of receiving a ring in addition to getting his name on the holy grail.
Hendry toiled with the Battlefords North Stars as a 17-year-old before heading to the University of Alaska-Fairbanks on a scholarship.
He made his NHL debut with Chicago in 2007 and became a fixture on the Hawk blueline this season.
Hendry joins the likes of Chris Kunitz (Melville), Chris Chelios (Moose Jaw), Rod Brind’amour (Notre Dame), Ruslan Fedotenko (Melfort), Brad Richards (Notre Dame), and Willie Mitchell (Melfort) as SJHL alumni who have hoisted Lord Stanley in the last few years.

Local Forward Schwab Signs with North Stars.

The Battlefords North Stars are pleased to announce that North Battleford's Tanner Schwab (1992) has signed with the Battlefords North Stars for the upcoming 2010-2011 season and beyond.

Schwab has spent the past three seasons playing his Midget AAA hockey in the Battlefords, and has even dressed with the North Star's on occasion in each of the past two seasons.

Schwab is an offensive-minded forward who scored 30 goals and 58 points with the AAA Stars last season.
