Brett Roulston Audio

Back in May, the Cougars officially signed Cariboo Cougars forward  Brett Roulston to a standard Western Hockey League contract. A few weeks back I spoke with him about signing with the Cougars. Roulston, to say the least, has had an interesting couple of years, and I for one am very excited to see him in action come the fall:

It's been a busy stretch for the Prince George Cougars General Manager Dallas Thompson. Hear his thoughts on today's CHL Import Draft and also some of the other recent occurences in Cougar Town:

Cougars Draft Defenceman Rinalds Rosinskis with the 65th Pick in CHL Import Draft.

The Prince George Cougars have selected 1994-born defenceman Rinalds Rosinskis in the second round (65th overall) of the 2012 CHL Import Draft. Rosinskis is from Latvia, and stands 6’5” and weighs 198 pounds.

Last season in 30 games, Rosinskis recorded one goal and nine assists with HK Juniors Riga in Latvia. He also recorded 34 penalty minutes. Through five playoff games, Rosinskis added two assists and six penalty minutes.

The Prince George Cougars are pleased to announce that 1994-born forward Troy Bourke (Onoway, AB) has been selected 72nd overall (third round) by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

In just his second full season in the WHL, Bourke led the Prince George Cougars in scoring. He scored 18 goals, 38 assists and added 56 penalty minutes. He played in 71 games.

Troy Bourke represented Canada recently at the 2012 World Under-18 Championship in the Czech Republic. He recorded seven assists in seven games, and was instrumental in helping Canada earn a bronze medal.

Bourke also suited up for Team Pacific at the 2011 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge that took place in Winnipeg and Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. Bourke had eight points in six games during that tournament and helped lead Team Pacific to a bronze medal.

Bourke, a life-long Colorado Avalanche fan, becomes the first ever Prince George Cougars prospect to be selected by the Colorado Avalanche franchise.

Three Cougars Invited to NHLPA Mentorship Camp.

                                          (Cougars draft-pick Jansen Harkins).

The Prince George Cougars are pleased to announce that three of their prospects from the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft have been invited to participate in the second annual Allstate All-Canadians Mentorship Camp hosted by the National Hockey League Players Association.

Jansen Harkins (North Vancouver, B.C.), Brad Morrison (Westside, B.C.) and Tate Olson (Saskatoon, SK) will head to Mississauga, Ontario from July 17 to 21, 2012 to take part in an invite-only camp that will be supervised by 21-year NHL veteran Gary Roberts.

“It’s an exciting time for us when one of our prospects, let alone three receive national recognition,” said Prince George Cougars Assistant General Manager and Director of Player Personnel Wade Klippenstein. “Last year we had Jordan Harris invited to this event, and he got a lot from it, and this year to have three named is very exciting not only for the organization but also for the three families involved.”

The Prince George Cougars selected Jansen Harkins with the second overall pick in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft. Harkins stands 5’11”, and 160 pounds and played with the North Shore Winterclub Winterhawks this past season. Harkins tallied 68 goals and 122 points this season for the Winterhawks.

“Jansen is a player with a great work ethic,” said Wade Klippenstein. “He’s very mature and very complete as a player.”

The Cougars traded up in the draft in order to select Brad Morrison with the seventh overall selection. Morrison (5’9”, 140 pounds) scored 83 goals and finished with 141 points with the Okanagan Hockey Academy during the 2011-2012 season.

“When you watch Brad Morrison, right away his skill jumps out at you,” said Wade Klippenstein. “He’s a pure goal scorer who’s very dynamic, and exciting to watch.”

The Cougars used their second-round selection to pick defenceman Tate Olson. Olson (6’1”, 157 pounds) played with the Saskatoon Stallions this season where he scored 21 goals, and added 29 assists in 36 games.

“Tate is a big, strong defenseman who can control hockey games,” said Wade Klippenstein. “When Tate’s on the ice he makes sure something happens and can make an impact on the game almost every shift.”

The five-day event will include the televised Allstate All-Canadians Mentorship Cup that takes place on Saturday, July 21 at 10:00 a.m. PT, on TSN.

Catching Up with Cody Carlson.

Cougars alumni defenceman Cody Carlson has confirmed that he will be attending the first annual Prince George Cougars Alumni/Hospital Pro-Am golf tournament in mid-August.
