A much better effort, but the result no different for the Battlefords North Stars who lost 5-2 in Melville Wednesday. Lucas Froese potted two for Melville and Alex Sirard earned the victory against his former team in goal.
The Stars opened the scoring at 2:33 of the first when Luke Hannas potted his first as a North Star. Lucas Froese tied it at around the mid-way point on a power-play and the teams skated into the dressing room tied 1-1.
The only goal of the second stanza came after the five minute mark when Mike Desjarlais snuck one past Kyle Birch. The Stars stuck with it and had their chances, but simply could not finish.
The persistence paid off for the Stars after the seven minute mark of the third. Ken Pearson juggled the lines up front, and Colin Phaneuf tipped a point-shot past Alex Sirard and the game was tied at two.
Shortly thereafter the Stars got called for a holding penalty and it cost them. Michael Rogochewsky buried on a rebound and Melville regained their lead that they would not relinquish. The Star's coaching staff was livid after this goal, because seconds earlier there was an apparent offside that was ignored.
*From my corner broadcast booth, I had ZERO way of determining whether it was offside or not.*
Justin Hollinger ripped a shot by Kyle Birch stick-side to make it 4-2 and Lucas Froese iced it with an empty-netter.
The Stars finished the game zero for seven on the power-play, though that total is a tad misleading due to the fact that three of those powerplays didn't last a full two minutes.
The loss puts the Stars at 13-17-1-1 heading into Showcase Weekend in Weyburn.

Well Another No show For The Stars. What Happened To All The Talented Players That We Have. There Is Something Definitely Wrong. I Dont Want To Start Pointing Fingers At Any One But How Do All Of These Talented Players Go Bad. I Have To Be Concerned About What These Players Are Thought.
Yep a bunch of talented players who apparently just can't play together. The Stars have the defenseman of the month and they still have the worst defensive team in the league.

If you watched or listened to the game and even the past 15 games you would see that the stars are playing good hockey and can beat any team on any given night, just like everyone else in the league, there is a lot of parity and i dont think too many teams will want to play them come playoff time
Everyone keeps saying that - Oh the Stars are so talented! They can beat any team! They're going to turn it around, just wait and see! We've been waiting. It's December. It's time to stop saying that it's going to happen, instead they need to make it happen. This is garbage, a team this talented shouldn't be playing this poorly night after night. Something needs to happen RIGHT NOW or it will be too late.

As a Terrier fan I saw the games the last 2 nights and the Stars have a good team, hang in there, thats a tough north division, very close teams from what I see

As for last night. I like the fact that Coach mixed up the forward lines to try to trigger a spark. However, I do believe that all of the trades in the first half of the season means players need the time to get to know each other on and off the ice. We will be significantly behind other teams in this respect but I have faith in our Coach and I think we need to give the players time to settle into a team. Once they know what to expect from each other, they will be able to demonstrate those touted talents. Go Stars!

From what I understand is that Morrissey was homesick and was a long ways from home. So Ken traded him to Carlton Place Canadians where Shaynes best friend and child hood friend is playing. Its too bad. Shayne was a great kid and a pretty good hockey player. Thanks for coming to NB to play...

Who ever wrote the comment that Shayne was home sick is OUT TO LUNCH. The kid has lived away from all last year. He wasn't traded because he was home sick. Anyone who knew Shayne, knew the difference of that. Ask his billet family if he was home sick. He was quite comfortable and actually loved it in North Battleford. He is a great kid and a great hockey player and he has made an impact on the younger kids living in the Battlefords as he was very involved in the community there. He went to the local school on several occasions and read to the children and he was a volunteer with the Pee Wee AA hockey team. There were a lot of unhappy kids in North Battleford once they found out the news of Shayne's leaving and Shayne spent time with them last night. So whoever wrote this comment has absolutely NO idea what they are talking about but I certainly do. If he was homesick he would be going home and not going to another team. The rumor has it that the team Captain told the coach that Shayne was homesick. I think the "C" should get his facts straight before running to the coach and furthermore the coach should have consulted with Shayne if that was indeed the case. Shayne's new coach wanted him to leave immediately but he asked to have another day in North Battleford to spend time with the kids and people that he has grown attached to. Does this sound like a kid who was home sick? NO WAY. It is not always about the hockey, most importantly it is about the person. Shayne has been speaking with several Division 1 schools and has been presented with some pretty awesome offers. These school not only take into consideration the type of hockey player the kids is, but more importantly the type of person they are. Good luck Shayne with your new team, they are very lucky to have not only an awesome hockey player but a well rounded person!!!!

We are Shayne's parents and we want to thank Debbie and Jim for taking our child into their home and treating him as if he was there own. Thank you to Dale and Missy for making him fell so welcome. Hope you enjoyed the fish!!! The rumour that Shayne was home sick is not true. He loved it in North Battleford. I had the opportunity to visit Shayne a few weeks ago and I was so impressed with how well he had adjusted to his new surroundings and it was also nice to see that he had such a big fan base at the games. Shayne has always been involved with volunteer work back home and has spent many hours at the local rink volunteering his time to help the younger kids in his home town. In fact, they have all kept in touch with Shayne through skype and texting. So it was not a surprise to us that he took on this role when he went to North Battleford. It is a shame that this rumor circulated but Shayne, his family and friends know the difference. It is rumours like this that can ruin a players reputation. Shayne has to move on and we are sure he will make an impact on his next adventure.

I would like to send a message in support of Shayne. I remember last summer when he made a very diffcult decision to leave St Andrew's prep school in Ontario and go to North Battleford. He was excited about the transition for he saw it as a move that would help in furthing his hockey career. The community, his billets were good to Shayne and Shayne gave back to North Battleford as he will give back to Carlton. I know he will have fond memories.

Shayne was an excellent kid and a great player. Thats too bad that Shayne got traded. I felt he could of been the SJHL rookie of the year. Why on earth is Ken trading a kid like this away?? Kids like this dont come along every day. Watching Shayne on the ice, you could tell he has a real passion for the game and his hockey sense was great. I just dont understand the reasoning behind this trade, and getting nothing in return?? WOW. I had never heard of that team so I just went to there website now, and there is a kid on that team from St.Johns Newfoundland. Too bad we lost a kid of this calibre and this personality.
