I compare 'future considerations' trades to a Credit Card. Boy it feels good to go home with that brand-new item, but sooner or later you have to pay off your debt, and that feeling doesn't feel nearly as good. That being said, Tuesday was another busy day for SJHL teams who continued to finalize trades that were made in January.
The Humboldt Broncos continue to bolster their lineup in the early stages of the SJHL off-season. One day after acquiring both Robbie Ciolfi and Clark Breitkreuz from Yorkton, they've added 20-year-old forward Ryan Marshall from the Swan Valley Stampeders of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.
Marshall comes to Humboldt as part of a future considerations deal that saw Nick Keller traded to Swan Valley.
The Melville Millionaires have improved their outlook for 2011-2012 after plucking three roster players from the Melfort Mustangs. After sending Brayden Metz, Cody Hanson, and futures to the Melfort Mustangs in two separate trades in early January, the rest of that deal is now announced.
20-year-old defenceman Lee Christensen, 20-year-old forward Jesse Mireau and 19-year-old forward Sean Aschim are all now property of the Melville Millionaires. The addition of these three (in my opinion) makes Melville an instant contender in the Sherwood Conference.
The Nipawin Hawks have also acquired two new players.
Former Battlefords North Star forward Justin Waskewitch is heading to Nipawin from Estevan as part of a future considerations trade for Jonothan Ceci.
In addition, the Yorkton Terriers have sent forward Alex Laird to Nipawin as part of the future considerations for defenceman Brant Remenda.
Again, the Battlefords North Stars are owed future considerations from the Vernon Vipers, but that deal won't be announced for awhile yet out of respect for the Vipers who are still celebrating their run to the Royal Bank Cup.

Dan, I am excited to hear who the stars are going to get from Vernon.. When you say, That the deal won't be announced for awhile, are talking a week or are we talking a month?? I am just excited... Vernon is known as one of the top teams in Canada... And adding a player with RBC experience could be huge..
With Rakochy between the pipes in Melville they certainly have the making of an exciting squad in the Sherwood , should be a heck of a dogfight.

Last year you saw a coach suck the life out of a team.His lack of pre-season recruiting and prep.never happened,and his attempts to catch up did not allow for team building.Watch the good ones and learn.By the way,what happened to tour pre-season prediction for rookie of the your!Let all keep our day jobs.
Lack of preseason recruiting??? Have I missed something??? 2 players(Most in league) that Ken recruited made the top 40 in all of Canada..... Morrisey just didnt turn out..... Maclellen was recrutied from the Vernon Vipers... He had a few injury problems but he is a real good player... Schwab is a year older and he will have a great year, as will Rollins.. I really liked the pre season recruiting he did... You cant win it every year... Hall came very close on winning rookie of the year.... Lets wait and see what happens this off season... You have to remember, last year we were without Miller for most of the year.. He would of been a huge impact on the team.. You look at the returning players that are going to to be back and other than Humboldt I dont see anyone in the league with as much depth returning.. Lets wait and see what happens this off season..
Recruiting is a tough job. But if you are recruiting a skilled forward/goal scorer, you don't take them and try to make a 4th line goon out of them. Put them in the situation that best fits their ability and help development them into an all around player. What ever happend to the SJ being a "developmental league." Some of the players were not given a chance and not played in the role they were best suited for.
On another note are any of the Battlefords Players receiving NCAA Division 1 Scholarships?
It is not only about the hockey player, but about the individual as a role model. The ones that are most focus on their hockey/off ice traininer and not on drinking and partying every weekend, for some reason, it is funny how the good ones are the ones who usually get sent packing.
