Stars Acquire Gibson from Estevan.

The Battlefords North Stars have acquired 1990-born forward Cole Gibson from the Estevan Bruins in exchange for 1994-born forward Dayton Picard.

Gibson has 28 points in 32 games this season. He started the season in Melfort but was dealt to Estevan on December 1st.

"He's a great skater who can score," says Stars Coach and GM Ken Pearson.

Pichard is currently playing Midget AAA with Moose Jaw and has 17 points in 23 games as a 16-year-old.

Ken Pearson might not be done. They released 1991-born defenceman Cade Kimery, and are possibly looking to add another blueliner before the deadline.

The story on the SJHL website entitled "Trade Deadline Deals" starts off with "...January 10 trade deadline has come and gone...". I thought that trades could happen until midnight? Can anyone confirm the actual time of day for the deadline?

Yes the SJHL trade deadline is until midnight. Now its only between SJHL clubs. The inter league trades were done at 8 pm. Which means no teams can trade with other teams from out of province.

Releasing D and adding forwards? This doesn't make any sense, Stars have the worst defense in the league. Ken needs to stop messing around with the forwards and concentrate on adding some good D men.

We've actually got the best defence in the league.. I cant think of a better group than Folstad,Klassen,Neurater,Luhning,Sparrow, Maclennen. There very mobile like Detroits defence. As for having bad defence there not bad, just very mobile which i know is something people dont like to see. I can see what Ken is doing... We started the day at 23 roster positions. Traded Cech and brought in Gibson a 20 year old forward for a 20 year old forward.. Then by releasing Kimery (BTW I would of released him a while ago) it opens up another card that Ken can add to defence... With Muench he wasnt taking up a roster spot because he was on what they call the "C" list because he was playing in the dub.

Best defense in the league??? Might wanna check the goals against there my friend. Even the team acknowledges that they have the worst D in the league. Thanks for the laugh though, I got a good chuckle out of that one!

Well with our coach's lack or inability to get some good trades and watching his antics behind the bench against Melville in the 3rd where He and Blair were late getting back and then the laughing and lack of focus with his back sometimes to the play to chat with Blair cost us 3 goals right off the bat until he called a time out. I see the Stars in last place by the end of Feb. Time for the board to do a Kindersley/Estevan. Hey maybe Ken could go to Estevan he seems to trade for players from that team all the time anyways. Love it trade a 1994 prospect for a 20 year old. Nice trade. Meunch was not coming back anyways, as to his "grit" philospohy gave away "some grit" for what"? Oh futures....right? Oh well eat em raw Laronge! lol Have a nice bus trip home boys after that game.

Regarding the most recent anonymous post:

Have you ever seen Cole Gibson play?

IMO it's a great deal for the Stars. Not to mention the fact that there is still another deal awaiting league approval that will add two more pieces to the puzzle.

I wouldn't be so hasty to throw Ken under the bus.

Cole Gibson has a hell of a shot. Hes a great skater as well. According to the Klippers blog. The player that the stars gave up, I saw play and really isn't that good. If How do you know what the futures entail with the Muench deal????? You look at the other teams did and they all gave away prospects in return as well for 20 year old players. According to the Klippers blog the stars got 1992 F Braeden Johnson. This kid was just cut from the top WHL team, and was cut because of a numbers game. The stars will have him for the rest of this year and 2 more after that. In return we gave Lund, who i am told wanted a change of Scenery from the Battlefords and the stars also got a stay at home defenceman with experience in Lance Tabin. We gave up Sagen who is alright, but not great. I can see the stars finishing in 3rd place. Ken has done wonders with the team. To fire him is absolutely ludicrious.
