Bombers 5 - Stars 0

The Battlefords North Stars fell to fifth place in the Bauer Conference Friday after a 5-0 loss to the Flin Flon Bombers at the Whitney Forum. Andrew Johnston and Tanner Kochinski each had three points, and P.J. Musico stopped all 33 shots that he faced.

Flin Flon capitalized early when Andrew Johnston skated down the right-wing and flicked a wrist-shot by Graham Hildebrand. It was Flin Flon's first shot of the game and it was also a power-play marker.

The rest of the first period went back and forth. There was lots of physicality and intensity. The Stars outshot Flin Flon 14-11 in the first period, and definitely had their chances. But P.J. Musico stood his ground.

Early in the second, Johnston struck again. It was an eerily similar play to his first goal, but Johnston led a two-on-one rush down the right-wing, and beat Hildebrand.

Tanner Korchinski increased the Flin Flon lead on another power-play goal. And Ryan Fox got in on the act late in the period to make it 4-0.

The Bombers got one more in the third period off a point-shot from Tanner Clark.

The Stars finished the night 0-6 on the man-advantage while Flin Flon finished three for five.

Afterwards, Blair Atcheynum praised the efforts of the Star's energy forwards, but again hinted that the top six need to be better.

It's no secret that times are tough for some of the North Star's top forwards, and confidence is wavering. That being said, they have another shot at it, tonight at 7:30 at the Whitney Forum.

A preview will be posted later this afternoon.

Stars ship is sinking fast, time to change things up and get some results or change the captain of the ship.

I agree, Pearson either doesn't understand how to match lines or just won't. He rolls his 4 lines too much, which doesn't allow his top 6 enough ice time. I understand they're struggling but you need them to get out there and break out of it. Let's be honest this team will only go as far as Grondin, Phaneuf, and Tatchell will take them.

We have all the confidence in the world for the top 6 forwards. You guys will break out and in a big way. Something tells me that the hired goon that has come to FF will be just the incentive for you guys to prove the Stars have the right combination of size and skill to overcome that kind of nonsense. But if players on the Stars and Hawks get injured for the rest of the season by this goon, the FF coach will be the most despised man in the league for bringing him here.

Stars did not play a bad game. Some bad bounces along with no penaly kill or power paly. Flin Flon goaltending and their power play seemed to make the difference. Could be different game tonight.
Big question in Flin Flon.... will Tony Oak still be the SJHL heavy weight champ after tonight's game.

Bomber fan.

I highly doubt Ashton Bernard is just a goon. 2009 6th round draft pick by the New Jersy Devils. Last time I checked the NHL isn't looking for goons. Word is that he can play hockey, hit hard and fight. Couldn't ask for a better combination. Looks more like he will be an incentive for the Stars to be looking over their should instead of looking for the puck. Last night score 5-0.
Tonight score 5-0 and Tony Oak broken nose and he deserves it since I have seen him in the past go after little guys instead of guys his own size.

From what I hear Goon is a fair description.

Plug is the best description of Bernard... 4 lines wins, I have yet to see a team win with 2 lines.

Stars have 1 line their in trouble then

Stars don't even have one line because they have no team chemistry and that starts with the coaches all they do is focus on the sacred top six when the stars might have one or two real top forwards and they need to play everybody and have all twenty players wanting to play hard for them. Right now they have zero. Time to focus on team boys

Tonight the Stars team and fans will find out if Bernard is just a goon. Could be a huge mistake for the Bomber organization.

Fans are funny sometimes. You're right behind your team, players and coaches if the team is winning, and everybody on the team is the most fantastic person ever; but as soon as they lose, they all suck. You blame the D, you blame the forwards, you blame the goalies, and you blame the coaches. The poor music man even got upset when he thought someone was blaming him!!! You should be ashamed of all the finger pointing you're doing. Time to start being TRUE FANS. Show your SUPPORT!!! Go Stars Go!! I believe in every single one of you.

How could Bernard be a mistake to the Bombers he didn't cost the team anything. Free agent and the bombers had a card to fill.

I agree with above except
GO BOMBERS GO

I just have to add to my comment here. The bombers fans are all over our blog sticking up for, and believing in their team. We're all over our blog ripping our team to shreads! Even Anonymous 4 who is a bomber fan, said we didn't play bad just had a lot of tough bounces. Our most positive post on here is from a Bomber fan? That's a little embarassing wouldn't you say?

Don't worry our blog is no different we have a lot of people talking about the team that know nothing about hockey. They blame everybody and don't help the team in any way. They don't understand how difficult it is to get players to come north even though once players come here they love it here.

Man, it must suck to live in FF, what a depressing town, livin on a rock LOL WAY up north. The chirpers here have nothing else to do but ice fish and smoke.

Trust me battleford is a dive compared to FF. We don't have to worry about our kids being beaten on the way to school, our girls being raped on the way home from a movie or our grandma being beaten for $5.

Anonymous said...

Yep, all you have to worry about is living on an ISOLATED ROCK!!!! Enjoy your yearlong winter LOL!

Does flin Flon even have a movie theatre,i doubt it, they probably show movies on the ass end of a polar bear.

rather live on a rock with lakes all around me than on a reserve with fields and gangs around me lol...

Anonymous said...

yes we do have a drive in theatre. We have better things to do than sit around get fat and watch movies. Gotta go now to watch the Bombers pound the Stars again.

Ha Ha... last time i went to flin flin i thought i was on a reserve. seriously, the first time i visited this place i was in shock, it reminded me of a third world country.

O.K. - this message board is getting out of hand. Clean it up guys. Some comments are becoming racist. Say something constructive or leave it to yourself, please.

well it looks like Bernard knows how to bleed!!

Never heard of this Ref but it sounds as though he is calling the game well. This one could have gotten out of hand pretty easily but he seems to be keeping control of the game.

Thanks Tony. You made a fan out of me tonight. Keep our boys safe on Tuesday. Revenge might be on the menu.
