Friday night at the North Battleford Civic Center, the Battlefords North Stars scored three goals in the second period, and defeated Yorkton 3-2. The victory moves the Stars within three points of the La Ronge Ice Wolves with four games still in hand.
The Stars fell behind 1-0 early in the second period as rookie defenceman Austin Bouhris opened the scoring for Yorkton.
Mid-way through the second period, the Stars tied it thanks to a fantastic goal from Blake Tatchell(7) at 10:09 of the second period. Two minutes later Josh Daley notched his 19th goal of the year, and the Stars had a 2-1 lead.
Late in the second, Dane Muench (7) forced a turnover and scored a gorgeous break-away goal to give his team a 3-1 lead.
The Terriers made it interesting early in the third on a power-play when Jordan Menke scored 1:53 in on a power-play. The Terriers then continued to bring on the pressure, outshooting the Stars 9-2 in the final 20.
Graham Hildebrand finally got enough goal support, and made several key stops in the second and third period and the Stars earned their third straight victory.
Over 800 strong came out to support the Stars in their pink jerseys. Those jerseys are being auctioned off today. Last year the Stars raised over $2000 towards breast cancer research, and this year they're hoping to do even better than that.
Tonight's game with the La Ronge Ice Wolves is incredibly important. A win for the Stars, and they're only one point back of the Wolves for second place in the division with four games still in hand.
What I guess I'm trying to say is, is that if you're going to attend just one game this year, tonight's game is probably a good one to consider.
