Stars Silenced in Kindersley 3-1

Sunday night in Kindersley, the Battlefords North Stars fell 3-1 to their rival Klippers, and remain just one point ahead of the La Ronge Ice Wolves for second place in the Bauer Conference.

The Stars opened the scoring at 5:12 of the first period when Jesse Lebreton (9) one-timed home a shot from the left point. The play started with some good checking efforts from Dane Muench and Justin Waskewitch.

The Klippers tied the score at one early in the second period when Andrew Dommett received a pass from John Calkins and made absolutely no mistake, beating Graham Hildebrand glove-side. Dommett's goal came on Kindersley's 26th shot of the hockey game.

The score was tied 1-1 through 40 minutes, but Kindersley had an incredible edge in shots on goal. They were outshooting the Stars 32-16 after 40 minutes. Many of Kindersley's shots came via the power-play as they were given three power-plays in the second.

Early in the third, Kindersley took control of the game for good when John Calkins raced in on a three-on-one with Dommett and Braedon Adamyk. Calkins faked a pass, then rifled a slap-shot past Graham Hildebrand to give his team the lead.

Kindersley would add a power-play goal from Jordan Braid, and would defeat the North Stars 3-1.

The Stars were given a power-play late, but were unable to get anything else past goaltender Josh Thorimbert who stopped 27 of the 28 pucks fired his way.

Graham Hildebrand was brilliant for the North Stars in defeat, stopping 39 of the 42 pucks fired his way.

After the game, Ken Pearson said that he was more-or-less pleased with the Star's efforts defensively, yet was frustrated by his team's lack of finish offensively.

The Stars are in tough Wednesday as they take their first road-trip to Flin Flon this year. The Bombers have a 12-point lead in the Bauer Conference standings, and given the parity in spot's 2-6, a victory over the Bombers would help the North Stars in more ways than one.
