Ken Pearson called it the most complete effort of the season. The Battlefords North Stars scored three unanswered goals in the third period, and defeated the Weyburn Red Wings 5-2 in front of 784 fans at the Civic Center. Goaltender Kyle Birch made 24 of 26 saves, and five different players scored for the Stars who wore pink uniforms in support of breast cancer research.
Keith Grondin opened the scoring on a first-period power-play. Brock Appleyard quickly countered for Weyburn and the teams were tied 1-1 after one.
Early in the second period, Shayne Morrissey grabbed the Stars their lead back with his seventh of the season. Shortly thereafter Shawn Cowie tallied for Weyburn, and the teams skated into the second intermission tied at two.
The third period belonged to the Battlefords. Blake Tatchell notched a power-play marker at 9:04 of the third period, and Travis Cech added his sixth in the final two minutes to give the Stars some insurance. Kyle Hall's eighth was scored into an empty net, and the Stars were winners.
The Stars outshot Weyburn 40 - 26 and finished two for five on the man-advantage. The Red Wings went scoreless on two power-play attempts.
Statistically not one player in particular stood out for the Stars. No player tallied more than a single point.
The Stars will look to keep the winning streak going Sunday afternoon against the Flin Flon Bombers. It's a 2:30 puck drop from the Civic Center.

Morrissey actually assisted Cech's goal. Clearly passed it out to him from behind the net. He just didn't get credit for the assist.
