Oak Strikes in OT to Lift the Stars over La Ronge.

*** All photos by Julie Larson:

What a time to score your first of the season!

Third-year North Star Tony Oak has struggled to score all season, but Friday night at the Civic Center he scored the overtime winner, giving the Battlefords North Stars a 5-4 victory over the La Ronge Ice Wolves.

The North Stars were one second away from winning the game in regulation, but Travis Gordon had other ideas.

The North Stars could have easily folded the tent, and blown the game after letting La Ronge force overtime, but they remained resilient. Ken Pearson afterwards said, "It was ugly, but we got the job done."

Brett Miller's 14th of the season got the Stars on the board at 6:21 of the second period. Doug Lindensmith quickly replied for La Ronge.

Taylor Pillar put the Ice Wolves up by one with an unnassisted marker at 16:00. Blake Peake quickly countered for the Stars with a goal at 18:22.

Early in the third, Doug Lindensmith scored his second of the game to give La Ronge a 3-2 lead.

The Stars then went to the power-play and Dane Muench tied it up with his second of the season. Blake Peake gave the Stars the lead at 8:44 of the third period.

Gordon's goal forced overtime, and Oak sealed the deal at 3:55 of the extra frame.

Up next for the Stars, the Melfort Mustangs - tomorrow night at 7:30. I'll have the call for you at 7:15.

You have no idea how difficult it was for me to NOT be at the Civic Center for this game. From what I hear, the crowd was outstanding. Great job North Star Nation.
