Stars Sink in Nipawin

Sometimes when two good goalies face one another you get a defensive showdown. Other times (like tonight) the opposite occurs.

The Nipawin Hawks defeated the Battlefords North Stars 6-4 tonight at the Cage on the strength of three power-play goals.

Defensively the Stars have seen better days. During the srcond periood, the Hawks seemed to score at will, with little to no objection from the Stars.

It was 2-2 after one. Ward Szucki (4) and Dane Muench (1) scored for the visitors.

The second period started badly, and only got worse.

Matt Spafford (twice), Alex Leclerc. Jon Ceci scored in the first 10:06 of the seconf to pace the Hawks to a 6-2 lead.

Ceci's goal was off a turnover. Leclerc's goal due to a homerun body-check that missed, and the sixth goal was just a combination of all of those things.

The Stars still managed to make this game interesting, and actually played an excellent third period. But tonight it was too little too late.

Coach Pearson juggled the lines, and I thoought it worked well in the third.

Muench - Wall - Peake

Andersen - Daley - Miller

Oak - Tatchell - Neufeld

Szucki - Tomac - Watt

Were the combos and lots of chances were created.

Hopefully the Stars can bounce back and put it all together Friday when the La Ronge Ice Wolves come to town.
