Cougars Comeback Falls Short Against Vancouver.

The Prince George Cougars comeback bid fell short in the third period of a 4-2 loss to the Vancouver Giants. Jordan Martinook scored three times for Vancouver while Charles Inglis and Alex Forsberg each responded with two points for Prince George.

The Vancouver Giants led 1-0 after one as Jordan Martinook opened the scoring at 5:33. The Cougars had several chances of their own but Brock Hirsche hit a goal-post and Jesse Forsberg fired a shot inches wide of the target.

The Cougars came on in waves in the second as well. Campbell Elynuik dashed through two defenders but was stunned by Adam Morrison who kept the 1-0 lead for his team. The Giants then responded with another goal from Martinook who capitalized at 10:43 to give the Giants the 2-0 lead.

Early in the third the Giants increased their lead when Dalton Sward beat Drew Owsley with a wrist-shot from the right-wing. A shot that Drew Owsley may have wanted another shot at.

Then the tide turned. Jesse Forsberg threw a big-time body check on Brendan Gallagher, and moments later the Cats capitalized on a power play. Cody Carlson rifled one home from the left point for his first of the season and the Cougars were in business.

Charles Inglis then made it 3-2 with his fourth of the season on another power play opportunity moments later.

But the momentum fizzled from there as Jordan Martinook capitalized off a Cougars turnover at their blueline to notch his third of the game and ninth of the season. From there it was game over for the Cougars who were outshot 27-22.

The Cats did find some life on the power play though and finished the game two-for-eight while the Giants finished zero-for-three.

The Cougars get Troy Bourke back from suspension tomorrow night, and will get another crack at the Vancouver Giants. The Cougars and Giants meet at 7:00 tomorrow night from CN Centre.
