Tuesday night in Vancouver the Prince George Cougars dropped a 6-2 decision to the Vancouver Giants. Marek Tvrdon scored twice, while Cain Franson tallied three assists for the Giants.
Vancouver led 3-0 after one period of play. The Giants got a short-handed marker from Dalton Sward and then followed that up with a one-timed power play tally from Tvrdon.
Austin Vetterl concluded the first period of scoring when he knocked home a Cain Franson rebound in the final minute of the frame.
The Cougars drew first blood in the second period when Jake Mykitiuk slid a gorgeous pass across the ice to Jarrett Fontaine who wired a one-timer past Adam Morrison.
Less than a minute later things got ugly. Martin Marincin took an interference penalty at center-ice, and a line-brawl ensued. After the dust settled Jesse Forsberg, Troy Bourke, and Martin Marincin were all kicked out of the game. Linden Springer would eventually be kicked out as well for a fight that occurred later in the period. Overall the two teams combined for over 180 minutes in penalties throughout the game.
The Giants added two more to their total later in the second. Brendan Gallagher one-timed home a pass from Marek Tvrdon to make it 4-1, and then Tvrdon added a short-handed goal to make it 5-1 Vancouver after 40 minutes.
The Cougars added to their offense in the third when Campbell Elynuik scored his first goal in a Prince George Cougars uniform. The play was created by Josh Smith who sent a hard-low point-shot on goal through traffic, and Elynuik buried the rebound.
Austin Vetterl wrapped up the scoring with his second of the game and the game ended 6-2.
The Cougars went zero-for-six on the power play while allowing two power play goals and two short-handed goals against. The Cougars were outshot 24-29.
The Cougars record now sits at 3-9-0-1. They’ll look to add a win to their record tomorrow night in Kelowna against the Rockets.
