Saturday night in Regina, the Prince George Cougars climbed back to the .500 mark with a 2-0 shutout victory in Regina over the first-place Regina Pats. Jordan Tkatch extended his goal-scoring streak to four straight games, and Drew Owsley made 19 saves for his second shut-out of the season.
The first two periods were scoreless, and both teams managed only 13 shots through the first 40 minutes. But early in the third period the Prince George Cougars took over. Jordan Tkatch went hard to the net and was rewarded with a loose-puck at the side off a Spencer Asuchak shot. Tkatch made no mistake and notched a goal for a fourth straight game.
One minute and 50 seconds later the Cats converted on a power play opportunity when Troy Bourke slid a gorgeous pass to Taylor Thompson back door. Thompson wasted no time in firing the puck past Matt Hewitt. For Thompson it was his second of the season, both of which have been scored on the power play.
From there, Drew Owsley did his thing. He made a series of important stops throughout the game, but none more important than a glove save off of Jordan Weal in the final minute to keep his shutout bid alive.
The Cougars outshot Regina 26-19 and finished one-for-four on the power play. The Regina Pats finished zero-for-three on the man-advantage.
The victory improves the Cougars record to 3-3-0-1, and gives them a road record of 3-2-0-0 on the season. The Cougars are back in action on Monday afternoon when they face the Moose Jaw Warriors at 12:00 Saskatchewan time.
