Stars / Hounds Preview

Notre Dame Hounds (5-3-1-0) @ Battlefords North Stars (8-5-1-0)

Hounds - 5th Place in the Sherwood Conference
Stars - Tied for First in the Bauer Conference.

The last time these teams met, it was October 8th, and the North Stars dropped a 4-3 decision in Wilcox. You ask any of the players and they will likely agree that the loss to Notre Dame was the WORST of the season. The Stars played-down to the Hounds level that night and got nothing for their efforts, tonight will have to be a different story.

Who's Hot For the Hounds:

Trevor Cameron leads the Hounds with seven points in seven games. He's got some capable players around him in Travis Janke (Yon-Kee) and Kyle Ireland, and if the Stars don't defend these guys properly, it could be a long night.

Who's On D:

The Hounds have an underrated D-Core that centers around their captain Blayne Stevenson. He, a long with James Howden will log a ton of minutes for the Hounds on the blueline. Stevenson is probably their best shut-down guy too.

Who's in Goal:

Russell Abbott was the netminder who beat the North Stars back on the 8th, and for the most part played very well in the process. He's an aggressive goaltender who likes to play the puck, and has proven that he can win hockey games.

X-Factor:

Travis Janke always seems to bring his A-Game when the North Stars are involved. His numbers this season aren't what they were last year, but he's got a quick release and could be a thorn in the side of the Stars tonight.

Who's Hot for the North Stars:

Blake Peake had a solid weekend for the Stars last week. He scored a beauty on the powerplay in Nipawin, and seems to be skating with a ton of confidence right now. He a long with linemates Daley and Neufeld could be poised for another big night.

Who's On D:

The play of Cody Folstad has been one of the best surprises this season for the Stars. He had another goal last Saturday, and continues to be a stellar compliment to Jesse Lebreton.

Who's In Goal:

Kyle Birch gets the call tonight for the North Stars. He beat Nipawin 5-4, and currently boasts a record of 7-2-1 for the Stars right now. This means that we see Graham Hilldebrand tomorrow against the Weyburn Red Wings.

X-Factor:

Neil Gamble's choice for North Star's X-Factor tonight is Jesse Lebreton. He also chimed in with a goal last Saturday in Nipawin, and is bound to see a lot of ice-time again tonight given the absense of Woody Klassen. If Jesse plays well, the Stars have a great chance to win.

Enjoy the game tonight!
