First and foremost, Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.
The Battlefords North Stars dropped a 5-2 decision to Estevan on Saturday night.
For a third straight game, the Stars opened the scoring in the second minute of the game. This time it was the captain Mitch Wall (3) receiving a pass at the side of the net, and walking right out in front and burying one by Derek Tendler.
Kyle Harty and Brody Haygarth scored in the final six minutes of the first, to make it 2-1 Estevan after one.
The Bruins and Stars would both score goals in the second period. Chad Filteau notched his sixth of the season for Estevan to give his team a 3-1 lead, but Brett Miller (7) tallied soon after, and the Stars entered the third period trailing 3-2.
Michael Hengen scored 6:42 into the third period to give Estevan a 4-2 lead, and they would add an empty netter to make it a 5-2 final.
Overall the coach was pleased with the effort of the Stars. The main reason why they fell in Estevan was their inability to finish. At least four different North Stars hit goal-posts or fanned on open nets.
The Stars now will enjoy some days off before heading back to practice on Tuesday. Their next game is Friday night against the Flin Flon Bombers at home.
