Stars Win in Nipawin

The right team won tonight.

The final score was 5-4, but the Stars darn nearly let this one slip away.

Shay Neufeld(6) scored midway through the first on the power-play to give the Stars a 1-0 lead. Cody Folstad(3) scored on the power-play early in the second to grab a 2-0 lead for the visitors.

The score was 3-1 after forty minutes, and the Stars held an enormous territorial edge and probably deserved more - Hawks goaltender Wyatt Wasalenchuk was stellar for the Hawks.

Woody Klassen (my color man) and I talked a lot in the second about "finishing teams off" and how crucial this game was for the North Stars.

Well true to form, the Stars made it interesting. Nipawin scored three unanswered goals to take a 4-3 lead with just under 7 minutes to go!

Last year, the Stars easily fold and lose a game like this.

However, this is 2009-2010 and the Stars found a way.

Jesse Lebreton(5) scored on the powerplay to tie it up, and 75 seconds later, Myles Cameron takes a shot from the left point which is redirected by Mitch Wall(4) and the Stars pulled off the victory!

The win gives the Stars a record of 8-5-1-0 and thanks to a Flin Flon loss in Humboldt, the Stars have a 3-@oint lead in the Bauer 0conference.

Overall, a great game!

My internet feed quit right at the end of the 1st and the SJ scoresheet was a little wonky, saying the game was over at 3 2 for us. I'm kind of thankful though because knowing that Nipawin came back to take the lead 4 to 3 would have drove me crazy!! Thank goodness we were able to rebound to take the win! That'll be a great confidence booster for the team!!

We had the same problem with the broadcast feed.. It kicked out at the end of the first and we weren't able to get it back until the end of the game. The score sheet is still not final by 2:30 on Sunday afternoon so the standings are not updated yet. It was tough to follow the game on the internet as they had Mitch Wall with a penalty at the end of the 3rd when I know the third hadn't even started. That made it appear that the game was at the end of the third period at around 8:45.. Glad we won though..

I have to second the opinions of "Tan" and "fan from afar", as our feed went out also. I even tried going into Nipawin's feed, but that was also unsuccessful. The important thing is that the team won, though. Congrats guys!!
