Its the first meeting of the season between the Nipawin Hawks (4-5-1-0) and the Battlefords North Stars (7-5-1-0). Last season the North Stars were 1-5 against Nipawin during the regular season, but were 3-0 in the playoffs.
Nipawin will no doubt be hoping to redeem themselves after an unexpected sweep in the Survivor Series.
Who's Hot for Nipawin?
Mike Rey. He's tallied 6 goals and 11 helpers in 10 games, Kory Kimpinski is second with 12 points.
Who's on D?
For my money, the best all around defenceman in the SJ is Nipawin captain Taylor Thiessen. He has 7 goals and 4 helpers so far this year. Thiessen was easily the best Nipawin Hawk during last years playoff series.
Who's in Goal?
We will either see former Battlefords Midget AAA Star Brody Hoffman, or 20 year old Wyatt Waselenchuk. Wyatt struggled against the Stars last year in the playoffs, but is definitely capable. Its a toss up as for who goes tonight for Nipawin.
Ex-Factor?
Two Ex-Northstars are likely to be really jacked up for tonight. Forwards Taylor Epp and Alex Leclerc are going to be tough to deal with.
Leclerc was a major contributor in the playoffs last year for us, but has dealt with some injuries so far this year.
Epp was traded to the Weeks Crushers last year at the January 10th deadline. He's got some good touch around the net, and will definitely be looking to make an impact tonight.
Who's Hot for the North Stars:
Brett Miller is unflapable right now. Last night against the Bombers, Miller was outstanding again.
Who's on D?
Again tonight I'm looking at Jesse Lebreton. He made a ton od noise againat Nipawin last year, and should be motivated by a battle with Taylor Thiessen.
Who's in Goal?
Well, I would think Birch, but maybe the coaching staff goes back with Graham after his performance from last night.
Ex-Factor?
Mitch Wall. He played his best hockey last year in Nipawin and having spoken with him, I know he's real fired up.
