Kindersley Klipper's forward Andrew Dommet wasted no time in making an impression on the 2010-2011 season.
The Kindersley captain scored the game-winner with 27 seconds left, and added two more points in a 7-6 Kindersley victory over the Battlefords North Stars.
The Stars opened the scoring at 16:52 of the first period when Colin Phaneuf scored on a wacky wrap-around that appeared to go off the stick of Kindersley forward John Calkins.
Shortly thereafter the Klippers made it 2-1 thanks to two quick goals from defenceman Kurt Leedahl.
Early in the second, the Stars were given a five-on-three man-advantage and newcomer Cade Kimery made no mistake. He walked in from the left point and roofed a wrist-shot over the glove of Scott Hellyer to tie the score at two.
35 seconds later the Stars took a 3-2 lead. Shayne Morrissey scored his first SJHL goal thanks to a lovely setup from Tim Rollins.
Andrew Dommett evened the score at three on a Kindersley power-play but again the Stars would quickly counter.
Brett Miller notched his first of the year on a Star's power-play and the Stars skated to the locker-room with a 4-3 lead after 40 minutes.
Early in the third the Stars increased their lead when Shay Neufeld put home his own rebound. But true to form, this game wasn't even close to being finished.
On the very-next faceoff, Shay Neufeld took a high-stick in the face and had to leave the ice and seconds later Sanfred King made it 5-4 for Kindersley. Brett Penner then tied the score at five on a long wrist-shot from the right boards.
36 seconds later the Stars regained their lead when Tim Rollins scored on an identical looking play to that of Penner, only Rollins' shot came from the left boards.
The Klippers would tie it again at 9:20. The Stars were pinned in their own zone, and a failed clearing effort resulted in Braedon Adamyk finding some open space in the slot, and promptly scoring the game's tying goal.
With overtime looming, the Stars put lots of pressure on Scott Hellyer - But after a game of wacky bounces, the Kindersley netminder stood his ground.
With thirty seconds remaining, Kindersley's Andrew Dommett intercepted a cross-ice clearing pass, took a step and then blasted a slap-shot through Alex Sirard for his second of the game.
The Stars pulled their goalie and received a late power-play, but once again Scott Hellyer rose to the occasion and denied the Stars on one-final opportunity late in the third period.
The Klippers (1-0) outshot the North Stars 48-36 and finished 2/3 on the power-play. The Stars finished 2-7 on the man advantage. Up next for the Stars: A Tuesday night home game against the Humboldt Broncos.

Well there was alot of good to take out of the game. First the offense it will shock me if we dont score a average of 5 goals a game with this offense. A couple guys that stood out was Tatchel, unbelievable looks like he is ready to dominate, Morrisey wow speed and skill and i will call Phanenuf this years super pest as he looks to get under guys skin. Even there was 7 goals i liked the way the defense looked the new guys looked decent and Folstad and Woody looked great, Chiblow will have a great year it looks like. Now i wont comment of the goaltending as obviously we have seen a one and done for Sirad, i guess the only thing is no goaltending controverary just yet.
Also you heard it from me Morrisey if he stays healthy all year will be the rookie of the year of the League.
Oh one more thing isnt Calkins the biggest whiner in the league.
What do you mean by 'one and done'? You don't think Ken will keep Sirad?
I think the Stars strength should come from offense, but I think they were not very good defensively as a whole. Kindersleys top line outplayed the Stars top line easily. That line showed how to score goals. I didnt think Woody had one of his better games. Tatchell, Daley and Morrisey's lines all played good, which gives the Stars more depth than most teams for sure. Any of them can score at any given time. They are also thanking there lucky Stars that Birch will be back in the pipes!!
The stars did not lose due to any lack of talent.....taking an unnecessary and undisciplined penalty in the first, a few soft goals, and couple bad give-aways add up to a loss made from mental mistakes and weak goaltending (sorry Sirad). A missed call on the high stick against Neufeld seemed to throw the Stars off and they gave up 2 quick goals to Klippers. And ya Morrisey is skilled and quick - but not well rounded enough to offer up the goods for rookie of the year. Stars have some rookies who are going untouted as of yet and will surprise everyone....
I meant by the one and done comment that he will not start again for the North Stars, they will keep him around to backup until hildy gets back and then let the arguement commence on who ya keep if you had to give one away. The defense in the first game i thought played well with some more games behind them will be good this year.
Yes Sirard didnt play his best game, but youve got to give him another chance. He did make 39 saves in the game. Last night Bartko let in 6 goals on 36 shots, does Laronge never play him again???? I dont think so. Hes one of the best goalies in the league and had an off night. To not give Sirard another chance I think would be premature.
I thought the Tomac line had a good game. When that line was on the ice the puck hardly left the offensive zone. I also thought Kimery and chiblow had a good game. As for kindersley top line, Larry matched lines with morrseys line most of the game, I thought Ken would pick up on that.
I think both the offense and the defense played well. There were plenty of opportunities (and goals) for us and I think the defense was fairly solid too. Despite the 7 goals against, there wasn't alot of scrambling in front of our net; most goals came from further out. Sirard did make a lot of good saves, but its safe to say he does have a weakness. Nothing they can't work on though.
