It's simple.
A Flin Flon win tonight and they clinch first place in the Bauer Conference.
After a 4-3 victory last night, Flin Flon is in the driver's seat and are naturally feeling very confident.
This afternoon I joined Rob Hart, Mike Regan, Trevor Sack, Dominic Martel, Michael Young, David Dykstra, and Brennan Cox on CFAR 590's Bomber Show. Outnumbered I was, but I held my own on the radio and didn't get wedgied by the Bombers!
But seriously, the Bombers are stoked. Mike Regan said that his team showed the most 'focus' that he's seen all year. They also made it clear that they're not intimidated by the size of the Stars.
From the Star's stand-point, things are just fine. Ken Pearson applauded the efforts of his team who had to overcome not only the Flin Flon Bombers - But also some lopsided penalty calls (only my opinion) and the exodus of Chad Filteau just 67 seconds into the game.
The Stars had their chances, and were silenced. The Bombers just a 'tad' more opportunistic.
If the Stars win tonight, this road-trip will be considered a success. The Mustangs and Ice Wolves are still flirting with second place, so a Stars win tonight would probably make everybody in North Star Nation a little more relaxed.
I'm not going to do the standard preview for tonight's game, because in this situation there are so few secrets and surpises.
The ultimate key for the Stars tonight - Beat Matt Weninger. For all of the gorious saves made by Kyle Birch last night, it was Weninger will two breakaway saves in the third which allowed Flin Flon to win.
Defensively the Stars will be just fine. They just need to get some offensive confidence against Weninger. Easier said than done, but tonight first place is literally on the line.
I'm expecting an even better game tonight. Enjoy the broadcast tonight!
