With four games remaining in the North Star's regular season their magic number is 3.5 to clinch second place in the SJHL's Bauer Conference.
What does this actually mean?
Any combination of North Star wins (-1) and Melfort losses (-1) heading down the stretch would shrink that magic number down.
Mathematically the Stars can finish no worse than third place in the Bauer. Melfort has a three point edge on the La Ronge Ice Wolves, and have two games in hand on them. Barring a Melfort Mustang's flop down the stretch, it appears as though the Stars may soon have a date with the Melfort Mustangs in the playoffs.
The Stars are next in action Wednesday night against the hottest team in the SJHL - The Melville Millionaires. The Mil's are winners of nine straight and are making some real noise late in this season. The Stars are in the midst of a modest three game skid, and would no doubt love to do some 'slump busting' in more ways than one.
