Stars Win Their Second Straight

The Battlefords North Stars met up with their Bauer Conference rivals from La Ronge tonight, and defeated them 5-2 in front of 732 fans at the Civic Center.

Jesse Lebreton (2) kick-started the offence early with a powerplay goal just 1:21 into the contest.

11 minutes later, Travis Gordon would respond for the Ice Wolves with a powerplay tally of his own and it looked like the Wolves and Stars would go back and forth for 60 minutes.

The Stars regained control at 13:53 when Josh Daley (3) scored off a Cody Folstad rebound. Shay Neufeld (1) bulged the twine 26 seconds later, and the Stars led 3-1.

Jesse Lebreton (3) scored his second of the night at 7:52 of the middle frame, and that would spell the end of goaltender Chris Jackson.

North Battleford's Adam Bartko would replace Jackson, and performed outstanding. Bartko made several fantastic stops, and kept his team in it.

The Stars would add one more goal when Blake Tatchell (2) wired home a point-blank slapshot on a powerplay.

Doug Lindensmith scored the lone goal of the third period on a powerplay.

The final shots on goal were 38-38, and Battlefords goaltender Kyle Birch earned his second consecutive win of the young season. Lost in the shuffle of a 5-2 win was the play of Birch, who looked calm and steady throughout the game.

Up next for the Stars - The Melville Millionaires. The game goes Friday night from Melville. Make sure you tune into the broadcast Friday night starting at 7:15.

I'll post some personal thoughts and some photos in a few minutes.
